How much does it cost?+
$3 a month at launch. After the first 2,000 subscribers the price starts dropping for everyone — half a cent per new member, with a floor at $1/month at 6,000 subscribers. Core news, events, government coverage, and emergency alerts stay free for every resident. Obituaries are always free.
When does it launch?+
The app has been in private beta since July 2025 with a small group of testers. Public launch on the iOS App Store is planned for summer 2026, with subscriptions opening in early 2027. Join the notify list above and we'll write the moment it goes live.
Is there an Android version?+
Not yet — iOS first while the platform finishes maturing. Android is on the roadmap for after public launch. Join the notify list above and we'll let you know when Android opens.
Where does the news come from?+
43+ local sources, monitored 24/7 — every city government site (Yreka, Mt. Shasta, Weed, Dunsmuir, McCloud), the Board of Supervisors, the Sheriff's Office, CAL FIRE, the Klamath and Shasta-Trinity National Forests, the Karuk Tribe and Quartz Valley Indian Reservation, the County Office of Education, College of the Siskiyous, the 8-chamber Siskiyou Chamber Alliance, Siskiyou News, and more. Content appears as soon as it's published at the source.
Who's behind this?+
Siskiyou is built in Mt. Shasta by Skyfolk, founded by Will Waltz, with Di Strachan leading outreach. We're exploring fiscal sponsorship with Rural Advancement Partners for the platform's first two years. Subscriptions fund coverage and infrastructure — no ads, no data resale, no national chain.
Why does Siskiyou County need this?+
44,000 residents spread across 6,300 square miles of wildfire-prone territory, a county newspaper that's effectively disappeared, and information scattered across dozens of Facebook pages and government websites. One app, one feed, one place to look — especially in an emergency.
Can I submit a tip or event?+
Yes — there's a submission flow inside the app for both news tips and community events. Members get faster turnaround, but anyone can submit.
